Belmont Walkway Restoration
In 2012 the GPF provided a grant to Action Bequia for the restoration of The Belmont Walkway, a seaside pedestrian thoroughfare that now connects all of Port Elizabeth’s business and shopping district with surrounding neighborhoods and beaches.
This iconic piece of Bequia’s character and charm has developed over many years as a way for pedestrians to move about freely and separately away from the hazardous roads. The original walkway had fallen into disrepair which negatively affected commerce and tourism in Port Elizabeth. Phase I of the project is complete, and the dozens of waterfront businesses surrounding Bequia’s Port Elizabeth can now be easily accessed.
